How to skip Chemistry in one easy phone call

I took chemistry when I was in high school. The teacher stood up there and droned on every day like the adults on a Charlie Brown episode: "Wah, wah-wah, wah-wah..." The first test was approaching and I started to panic, realizing I had no idea how to do this stuff. It made no sense whatsoever. So my mom pointed out that Don actually taught high school chemistry in Oklahoma. Although Oklahoma was an exotic, foreign country located at least 2 hours distant, I figured that chemistry could cross state lines and still work. So I called Don up. In what was a long - and no doubt very expensive - phone call, he patiently talked me back off the ledge. By the end of the phone call, he had taught me the entire rest of the year's material for chemistry class.

From that point on, I skipped all the lectures and sat in the back of the classroom programming on our fancy new Apple II computer. You could say that Don's expert instruction enabled me to get sucked into the technology world, setting me on the path for my future career. His willingness to work with his wife's annoying brother and patience have helped support me, my family, and thousands of employees.
