Obituary for Dorothy Ann Young Prestwood

Dorothy Ann Young  Prestwood
Dorothy---Dottie to her friends and family---was born to Robert and Virginia Young in Chicago, Illinois on March 21st 1945. Shortly thereafter the family relocated to her father’s hometown of Fontana, KS. Upon the remarriage of her father to Wilma Hillgren, Dorothy became the eldest of what would eventually become eight (herself included) siblings. After graduating as valedictorian of her Fontana HS class in 1963 and beginning her nursing studies at Stormont Vail in Topeka in 1966, Dorothy moved to Austin, TX to continue her education. She would earn both a Bachelors and Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Austin. While in Austin she met and married Clyde L. Prestwood, Jr. in 1972 and would have two sons Clyde L., III ‘Lee’ b. 1975 and Brian Alan b.1977. She worked as a school nurse for the Austin Independent School District for 20+ years until her retirement in the late 90s. Her favorite pastime was needlepoint canvas work which she enjoyed with many friends as a longtime member of the Austin Stitchery Guild. She passed away on April 10th 2018 in Springfield, MO. She is survived by her sons, grandchildren Quentin, Owen, Laurelin and Arlo and their families as well as brothers David Young, John Young, Michael Young and sisters Rebecca Abell, Laura Houston, and Debbie Pearce. Dorothy’s final resting place will be alongside her family at the Fontana Cemetery in Fontana, KS.
Services for Dottie will be at 11:00 am Saturday April, 14, 2018 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East in Springfield, MO. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am Saturday prior to the service in the funeral home.
