Obituary for Betty
Elizabeth Kathryn Morris nee Copeland (AKA Betty K, Mom, Nanny, Bratt), born 08/22/39, died 01/27/18 after a brave 2 year battle with lung cancer.
She was on the board of Douglas County Sheltered Workshop, passionate about and active in Bikers Against Child Abuse, and worked for 20+ years with FEMA helping those affected by disasters. She was a fierce advocate for, and vocal in, her support of the underdog. She was also vocal in support of favorite sports teams, cheering on the high school football team and her beloved Kansas City Chiefs. She had an adventurous spirit that took her around the country and around the world. From traveling with her kids to Africa, Scotland, Europe and Greece, to visit family members stationed abroad, or on her own to Egypt, Italy and beyond… to many cruises with friends and family… to see kids and grandkids graduate, she took to the open road with her own style of joie de vivre.
That joy carried over in her love of all games…playing pool, cards, board games and anything that involved hearty laughter. She passed on a love to many generations for spending the day or weekend at Silver Dollar City and Branson. She never passed up a chance to ride Fire in the Hole or sing along with the Front Porch Pickers. She also enjoyed quiet conversations over a cup of coffee and a plate of biscuits and gravy with her beloved coffee group.
She is the daughter of Donald and Wanda Copeland of St. James, MO. She is the widow of Carl Edson Morris. She is survived by her five children, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. These numbers include those not related by blood but whom she loved as her own.
An outdoor memorial service will be held April 14th at 2 pm at the family property outside Ava with repast to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to BACA, Shoto Chapter, PO Box 1796, Ava, MO 65608.
