Obituary for Edna Mae Grisham (Morton)

Edna Mae  Grisham (Morton)
Edna (Beard) Grisham was born April 19, 1922 in Springfield, MO., the daughter of Walter and Janetta (Ramsey) Morton, and was a life-long resident. She was married June 16, 1943, to Samuel E. Beard, an army soldier stationed at O’Reilly General Hospital, in Springfield. To this union a son, Samuel Beard Jr., was born. He husband, Sam Beard Sr. preceded her in death in 1971. She was later remarried in September, 1989, to Wayne L. Grisham. They spent several years enjoying traveling and volunteer work together. Wayne passed away April 19, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; Marie Caldwell, Bessie Morton, Dorothy Pittenger, and a brother, Lester Morton. Active in Parent Teacher Association, she served as PTA president of three different schools---Robberson Elementary, Reed Junior High, and Hillcrest High Schools, and held a Missouri State Life Membership in PTA. Edna was a member of Central Christian Church for 50+ years, serving as deacon, a member of the church board, and numerous other committees. She was also a member of Gold Star Wives of America. She volunteered for several charities, including Crosslines for over 43 years. She is survived by her son, Sam Beard; grandson, Dr. Ryan Beard (Whitney); great-grandchildren; Henry, Nathan, and Emily; very special nieces—Rose Nichols, Mary Humphrey, and a nephew, Jim Caldwell. Graveside services will be at 1:00pm, Friday, October 20, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North. In lieu of flowers, donations to Crosslines are requested.
