Obituary for Joseph Francis Abrams

Joseph Francis  Abrams
Joseph (Joe) Francis Abrams, age 74, of Springfield, Mo., passed away Friday, September 8th, 2017, following a long illness. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa. Joe graduated from Farmington High School in New Mexico in 1961. He continued his education by training as a mechanic, and he was a great one for many years. He ended his career as Head Mechanic for the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. He loved volunteering his time with the Boy Scouts, and he was a leader for Troop 198 for many years. His love for scouting also led to involvement in Wood Badge. He gave much of his time to the Lion’s Club where he held many offices for the 26H District, including Past District Governor and Melvin Jones Fellow. He also loved fly fishing and was a member of the Missouri Trout Fishermen’s Association. He loved to visit with his many friends over coffee, as well as tinkering on models and radios. He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Sue Abrams, and three of their four children, Treva Smith, and her husband, Gary Smith of Adrian, Missouri, Joseph Slagle-Abrams, and his wife, Andrea Slagle-Abrams of Manhatten, Kansas, and Fairelyn Kaye Bayless of Springfield, Missouri. His daughter, Darnella Jo Abrams, proceeded him in death. He was also proceeded in death by his parents, Joe W. Abrams and Ellen Vernium and her husband, Ralph Vernium. He is survived by his much-loved grandchildren and great grandchildren, Greg Smith, and his wife, Shauna, their children, Anna Marie, Gabe, and Blake of Drexel, Missouri, Rebecca Kammer, and her husband, Kyle, and their three children, Ahnika, Fletcher, and Harrison of Burke, Virginia, Tyler Smith, and his wife, Samantha of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Arianna Larriu, and her husband, Nathan, of Willard, Missouri, Colton Abrams-Radford, of Springfield, Missouri, Carlos Abrams, of Adrian, Missouri, Jordan Bayless of Springfield, Missouri, and Corbin Slagle-Abrams of Manhattan, Kansas. Visitation services will be held Monday, September 11th, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 12th, 2017 at the same location at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Brighton Cemetery.
