Peggy Ann O'Neill, age 84, passed away August 17, 2017 at her home in
Springfield from complications of a stroke she suffered in December 2016.
She was born May 25, 1933 in Republic, Missouri, the youngest child of
Lawrence and Ruby Britain.
Peggy was a descendent of the first settlers of Republic, John Thomas and
Charlotte Jane Britain and Elish and Mary DeBoard. She spent most of her
life on the original family homestead near Wade Chapel Cemetery west of
Republic. After graduation from high school she attended cosmetofogy
school and was proud to have been a working hairdresser for over 60 years.
In her younger days she loved to go hunting and fishing with her brothers,
especially enjoying deer hunting and deer camps.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and all of her brothers; Don,
Bud, Robert, and Jack Britain, as well as both sisters, Billie Steelman and
Barbara Britain, who died in infancy. She was also preceded in death by her
own sweet daughter, Ann, who died in a house fire at age 4, and her beloved
husband, Jim O'Neill, a long-time Greene County Deputy Sheriff.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews. Peggy has been cremated and
her ashes will be placed with her husband at the Missouri Veterans
Cemetery. No service is planned. Anyone wishing to remember Peggy may
make a donation in her honor to the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri.
