Obituary for Dorma Lea Duncan (Sarratt)

Dorma Lea Duncan (Sarratt)
Dorma Lea (Sarratt) Duncan went to heaven to be with Jesus on Saturday morning, August 5th with her family by her side. She was 87 years old.

On June 21st, 1930, Dorma Lea was born to (Emily) Oaty & Marshall Sarratt. She grew up in the hills and "hollers" of Marsena, Arkansas. She spent her childhood days playing outdoors in the country with her sisters Pauline and Geraldine. When she was 17 years old, on April 24th, 1948, she married Coy F. Duncan. Together they had 4 children, 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. The joy of Dorma Lea's life were her children and grandchildren. She spent 64 years selflessly taking care of and raising her family.

Dorma Lea was a Christian and a devoted member of the Kansas Expressway Church of Christ. When she was well, she rarely missed a church service. For several years, every Tuesday, Dorma Lea would meet with other women from the church and they would make stuffed animals and pillows to send to children in the hospital.

Dorma Lea spent her free time tending to her flowers, watching the birds, and cooking. If you dropped by her house she was sure to have delicious food on the table. If you were lucky you might even find some of her famous fried peach pies. Dorma Lea's grandchildren have fond memories of sitting on her countertop and helping her make cornbread, biscuits and cocoa, noodles, bread, pies, and cinnamon rolls. She also loved to quilt and taught her grandchildren how to sew. All of Dorma Lea's children and grandchildren have multiple quilts made just for them by her.

She is preceded in death by her son Quentin Duncan, her daughter Judy (Duncan) Heavin, her granddaughter Summer (Duncan) Ewing, her parents Emily "Oaty" and Marshall Sarratt, and her sister Pauline Lenhart. She is survived by her husband Coy F. Duncan, two sons and their wives; Coy L. and Cheryl Duncan and Gary and Brinda Duncan, four grandchildren and their spouses; Kevin and Samantha Heavin, Andrew and Stephanie Heavin, Holly and Bryan Whisler, Travis and Taylor Duncan, nine great-grandchildren; Jessa, Micah, Tomas, Nolan, Eli, Grace, Emmitt, Ila, and Beau, one sister Geraldine Horton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Ash Grove Healthcare for the love and excellent care they gave to Dorma during the final months of her life.

Dorma Lea's favorite quote was "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" So today, in memory of Dorma Lea, go do something kind for someone.
