Obituary for Carl E. North Jr.

Carl E.  North Jr.
Carl E. North Jr. was born January 25, 1918 to Carl E. North Sr. and Lois Gillespie North in Philadelphia Pa. He was raised and attended school at Harvard Nebraska. He died April 13, 2017 in Springfield, MO.
He joined the Army in 1941 and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood where he met Ruby Francis Durham from Houston Missouri. He said they were on a picnic and when he tasted her fried chicken it sealed the deal. They were married August 1, 1942
and had one daughter and three sons. Carl served his country during WWII and in Korea. He was in the Pacific theater from July 1943 thru September 1945, serving in New Guinea the Islands and the Philippines. Later served in Europe in the 1950's, finishing his 21 year career at the Nike Missile site in Chicago, Retiring as Major. Carl received numerous medals during his service among which was the Bronze Star for rescuing a wounded solder from a mine field, the Pacific Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal and numerous others.
Carl then began his second career. He obtained his Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration and then his Masters degree. He started the 2nd Special Education class in Oklahoma at Bartlesville. He went on to become the Director of Special Education of Northeastern Oklahoma. He also set up the first program in Okla. for gifted children. Education was very important to Carl to which his grandkids can attest as they received many a TALK on the importance of education. Carl retired from education in 1984. Carl and Ruby continued to live in Bartlesville where they were members of the Episcopal Church. In 1995 they moved to Hurley Missouri to be near children and grandchildren.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; brother Claude, sister Etta Mae and Son Colonel Warren W. North.
He is survived by his daughter Connie Kisner and husband Mark, Terry North and wife Sheila, James North and wife Mary and daughter in law Bonnie North, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.
Services for Carl will be at 9:30 am Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East with visitation 9:00 to 9:30 am prior to the service. Burial with full military honors will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
