Obituary for Emma Jeane Owen (Smith)

Emma Jeane Owen (Smith)
Emma Jeane (Smith) Owen, 96, passed away March 27, 2017 at the Ozark Baptist Home. She was born on a farm in Rogersville, Missouri to Robert LeRoy and Marie (Watts) Smith on Easter morning, March 26, 1921.
Mom loved spending time on the farm and with her dad Roy, milking cows and helping the hired hands who at four years old nicknamed her “Preach” which is a story in itself. She attended school at Rogersville and was very active in sports including volleyball, softball and tennis, winning several championships and trophies for the school. She even extended her love for softball well after high school and included her young son as bat boy. Later on, her parents bought a farm at Turners Station and roots were put down there!
Jeane became a cosmetologist at the age of 18 and her career spanned for 72 years.
She eventually opened four salons in the area and was part owner of a cosmetics company. She also trained as an esthetician and as a professional make-up artist in Hollywood. Her other achievements and certifications included color consultant and permanent cosmetic make-up, all which helped make the world a more beautiful place. Jeane worked for years doing make-up and hair for performing artists on The Ozarks Jubilee, television commercials, movies and in Branson, Missouri. She was very talented, never met a stranger, and loved to share stories of the many adventures and travels throughout her lifetime.
She always looked forward to coming to the annual Turners Station picnics to reminisce and seeing the folks she grew up with and their growing families.
Several years ago, Mom was asked to write down her memoirs and so she ended up writing a book about her life telling her family heritage and her accomplishments and endeavors in life and called it From Dairy Queen to Beauty Queen. We will cherish that book forever!
Mom was a lifelong Baptist, she loved the Lord and adored her family.
Jeane was a member of Second Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri and had past memberships at Glenstone Baptist Church, Springfield, Missouri and Forest Park Baptist Church, Joplin, Missouri, where she did the make-up for The Passion Play for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Deane Shoreack and Ruby Wulff, one brother, LeRoy Smith and her brother in law Al Wulff.
Survivors include her son Terry (Beverly) Owen, daughter Regina Townes, three grandchildren, Shelli (William) Gilbert, Mike (Carolyn) Owen, Charlie (Sandy) Owen, six great-grandchildren and spouses, and eleven great-great grandchildren, also surviving are two nephews, Doug (Cheryl) Wulff and Kirk (Diana) Wulff.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Ozark Baptist Home for the loving care and devotion you gave to Momma Jeane!
Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 PM Thursday, March 30, 2017 with funeral services held at 1:00 PM Friday, March 31, 2017 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East with Reverend John Swadley officiating. Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery.
