Obituary for Ella Mae McCullah (Phillips)
Ella Mae (Philips) McCullah, age 99, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Mount Vernon Place Care Center.
She was born in Hindsville, Arkansas, the daughter of Joseph and Iva (Wade) Philips, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Haskel Philips and Carol Philips, her sisters, Irene Hartley, Ova Ramey, and Nancy Deathridge.
Ella graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1935. She worked at Juvenile Shoe Factory in Aurora in the 1940’s, and as supervisor in several shoe factories in California. She also worked as supervisor for Evans Collars in Mount Vernon for many years. She loved quilting, reading and crossword puzzles. She taught Sunday School in California and Missouri for many years and worked in several churches in many positions. She loved the Lord and her family with all her heart. She was a very giving person and loved to help other people.
Surviving her are three sons, James R. (& Betty) McCullah of Halltown; Ronald McCullah of El Monte, California; Phillip (& Marlena) McCullah of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and six great, great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 6, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South in Springfield at 441 W. Battlefield. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, June 5, at the funeral home.
