Obituary for Dorothy Ryan

Dorothy Ryan
Dorothy Ryan, age ninety, a devoted wife and mother, passed away May 27, 2018, at Mercy
Hospital Springfield after an extended illness.
She is survived by her husband Donald Ryan; son Stephen Ryan and wife Vicki Ryan and
granddaughter Jennifer Ryan; and daughter Marsha Steele and husband D. Kent Steele and
grandson Ryan Steele, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death
by her parents and five brothers and sisters.
Dorothy attended Willard High School, where she was actively involved in the music program,
playing the snare drum in the school band, and participated in the choral program, graduating
as valedictorian of her senior class.
She married husband, Donald Ryan, in August 1947, and they celebrated their 70th wedding
anniversary last year.
Dorothy trusted Christ as her personal savior as a teenager at Rose Hill Baptist Church near
Willard, Missouri and was very active in church work throughout her married life, teaching
preschoolers at High Street Baptist Church, serving as group leader for her Sunday School Class,
and serving for over 16 years as a church greeter. Upon graduation from high school she was employed at American Laundry as a bookkeeper, later working at Union National Bank in Springfield. She joined her husband in Oceanside, California in 1952 when he was stationed at Camp Pendleton while serving in the Marine Corp, where she was employed at a local photography business as lead printer.
For the last several years, Dorothy has attended Seminole Baptist Church in Springfield where
she served with her husband in the Harmony Bible Class.
Funeral services for Dorothy Ryan will be May 31, 2018 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East,
Springfield, Missouri, with visitation preceding the funeral at 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service time of 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Don Baier officiating. Burial will follow at
Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seminole Baptist Church mission fund or to the
Ozarks Food Harvest.
