Obituary for Janet Ann Cavener

Janet Ann  Cavener
Janet Ann (Smith) Cavener, age 68, of Sparta, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Mercy Hospital.
Janet was born on April 7, 1950, to Kenneth and Ilene Smith, of Crane, Missouri. She graduated as salutatorian from Crane High School in 1968. She married her high school sweetheart, Tom Cavener, on November 6, 1971. After Janet graduated from Southwest Missouri State College with a degree in Secondary Education in January 1972, she joined Tom in Italy, where they lived for two years while Tom was stationed at the Aviano Air Force Base. Once they returned to the United States, they settled in Springfield and raised two daughters. Janet worked mainly in financial institutions, and left United Way of the Ozarks in 2006 to babysit their first grandchild. Janet enjoyed traveling, camping, and spending time with her family. Janet was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Taylor Smith and Ilene (Williams) Smith.
Janet is survived by her husband of 46 years, Tom Cavener, Sparta; daughters Angela Hurst and husband Bill, Rogersville, and Jennifer Baker and husband Shaun, Ozark; sister Sharon Smith and husband Ron, Monett; grandchildren Aiden and Adalyn Baker, Ozark, William and Allison Hurst, Rogersville, Miranda Hurst, Rogersville, and Andrea Hendrix, Springfield; and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, May 11, 2018, from 6:00-8:00pm at Greenlawn East Funeral Home, 3550 E. Seminole, Springfield, Missouri. Services will be Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 1:00pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1551 E. Portland, Springfield, with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Crane, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church in memory of Janet.
