Obituary for Eugene Augustus Williams

Eugene Augustus  Williams
Eugene A Williams, 93, of Springfield, Mo. died May 5, 2018 at home. Gene was born on December 7, 1924 to Clarence and Gertrude Williams in Springfield. He graduated from Senior (Central) High School in 1943 and married his high school sweetheart, Martha Underwood, on August 24, 1943. They spent 74 years together. He served his country during World War II in the Naval Air Corp and was stationed in Panama and the Galapagos Islands.

He was the owner and operator of the E. A. Williams Plumbing Company for many years. In later years he worked in big construction including Mercy and Cox Hospitals and the Southwest Power Plant.

Gene was an avid believer in the restoration and preservation of antique automobiles, owning many in his lifetime. He was a charter member of both Ozark Antique Auto
Club and Springfield Vintage Motor Club.

For many years Gene was active in the Boy Scouts of America serving as Scout Master for both Troop 4 and Troop 100. He was also a member of the Order of the Arrow.

Gene loved his church and was a lifetime member of Central Christian Church. He served for many years in various positions including Deacon, Elder, and Chairman of the Property Department.

Gene is survived by his wife Martha, son, Richard E Williams (Cassandra), daughter, Becki Kelley (Jim), daughter-in-law Judy Williams. Surviving grandchildren are Traci Rickman (John), Lauri Smith (Shawn), Jennifer Gruener (Tony), Jana Worth, Christina Haney (Brian), grand daughter-in-law Amanda Williams, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Williams and grandson, Matthew H. Williams.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 9, 2018, 12:30 p.m. at Central Christian Church followed by the funeral at 1:30 p.m. and the burial at Greenlawn North Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Central Christian Church, 1475 N. Washington.
