Tommie Leonard Zapata Sr. fell asleep in death at his home on March 19, 2018 comforted by and beholding the love of his life, Susie, his wife of over 50 years. He had fought a long, hard battle with Parkinson's Disease and other ailments.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Carmen V. Zapata; his father and stepmother Raymond P. and Carmen Zapata and two brothers, Robert and Jerry Zapata.
Tom was a unique man who was loved and will be missed and forever appreciated by his wife Susan "Susie", his three sons and their wives: Reuben and Diana Zapata; Tommie Jr. "TJ" and Cami Zapata; David and Karen Zapata; his two daughters and their husbands: Diane "Ya-Ya" and Jim Campbell and Virginia "Ginnie" and Scott Nelson.
He enjoyed times spent and loving his 10 grandsons and 10 granddaughters. He also proudly welcomed into this world 15 great-grandchildren. Tom will be missed by a host of nephews, nieces and by a family of in-laws.
Tom is also survived by his two sisters Georgia and Mary Ellen Zapata and two brothers, Larry and Carlos Zapata.
Tom was hard working at his trade in construction, a concrete finisher for most of his life. Until he was no longer able, he very much enjoyed the outdoors, bike riding, camping, swimming and most of all taking road trips with Susie and often including the grandkids. Tom never complained of his disabilities and kept his sense of humor. He was a courageous man.
