Obituary for James A Garfield Hamby

James “Babe” Hamby, age 85 of Aldrich, MO, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018, at Cox South Medical Center Springfield, MO. He was born November 10, 1932, in Stockton, MO, to Abel E. and Lula Mae (Litle) Hamby. He is a US Army Korean War veteran. He was united in marriage to Nancy Marie Osburn July 4, 1957, and to this union four children were born. He worked for the Polk County Road and Bridge Department where he retired after 20 years.
“Babe” enjoyed fishing, quail, pheasant, and coon hunting, and loved family get-togethers and having fish-fry’s. Later in life he liked the Casino. He loved his family and joked with his grandchildren. He loved to make up songs and sing them to his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a great grandson Jace Carter Hamby; and three brothers: Leland, Ellis, and Ray Hamby.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Nancy of the home; four children: Harold Hamby of Ellinwood, KS, Theresa Jones and husband Gary of Aldrich, MO, Jerry Hamby and wife Jenise of Bolivar, MO, and Larry Hamby and wife Darla of Collins, MO; 10 grandchildren: Larry James Hamby, Melinda Burnett, Sharr Hamby, Gary Hamby, Ryan Hamby, Brian Oyler, Alisha Hamby, Rachel Franco, Lorrie Hamby, Lacy Hamby; 10 great grandchildren; a sister Goldie Manning and husband Lyle of Ellinwood, KS; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Pitts Chapel with Bro. Russell Crouch officiating. Burial will follow at Lindley Prairie Cemetery Bear Creek, MO. Visitation will be an hour before the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 21, 2018, in the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at: www.greenlawnfuneralhome.com.
