Dale Allen Dorrell, age 68, a longtime resident of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on January 26, 2018. Dale fought cancer for the last five years. He was strong throughout his illness. Dale was born October 26, 1949 in Springfield to Louretta Graham (Dorrell) Ramirez and Verbin Dorrell, Jr.
Dale married Betty Bowen on June 13, 1980. Dale is survived by his wife, Betty; children, David and Dennis Hill and Trisha and Clint Evans; brother, Michael Ramirez and wife, Nancy; sister, Deborah (Dorrell) Coffman and Tina. He has seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren, six nieces and nephews.
Dale graduated from central High School in 1967. He entered the navy in 1969 and served as a cook and bartender at the Officer’s Club. He was honorably discharged in 1971. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Columbia College in Springfield.
He belonged to the Willard Blue Lodge and Shriners. From 1975-2001, he worked for MODOT. He retired from MODOT and began working for the Springfield Public School system as a Para Professional and worked with children with behavioral issues from 2001-2015.
Dale was an avid golfer, loved playing with his buddies as well as Betty in couples league and tournaments at the Greenhills Country Club. He played over 398 rounds of golf in one years time. He and betty enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning and monthly dinners with their family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather (Pepe Ramirez), stepmother (Fern Dorrell) and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home North on January 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, Dale requested donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
