Obituary for George Richard Long

George Richard  Long
George Richard Long, 66, of Springfield, MO, went home to be with his Lord on January 17, 2018. Born October 31, 1951 in Cleveland, OH, George was a son of the late Thurman Edward Long and Arline Martin Long. After graduating from Miami University of Ohio with a Bachelors of Science, George received his commission from the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. A veteran of the United States Coast Guard, George continued to serve others in many different occupations throughout the years but he enjoyed farming the most. On December 13, 1975, George married Kathleen Waltz Long. They were married 18 months when, on June 3, 1977, Kathy passed away from acute leukemia. On May 26, 1979, George married Carol Perkins Long, and to this union were born four children. On February 14, 2016, George married Susie Hempstead Owens Long. George is survived by his wife, Susie Long; sister, Betty Cap, and brothers, Bob (Stephanie) and Bill (Angie) Long; and ex-wife Carol Long; Children: Jenica (Damon) Belsha, Stacey Bober, Brannon (Chelsea) Long, and Marcy (Tim) Lawson; grandchildren: Curtis and Karley Belsha; Kenzie and Cole Bober; Caiden, Conner, Kianna, & Coen Lawson; step-children: Randall II (Amanda), Brian (Angie), Christi and Michael (Jennifer) Owens, step-grandchildren: Darla Belsha; Conner and Colton Pendergrass; Carlee Long; Lyric, Kingston, Gehrig, Carter, Ella and Charlotte Owens; Ava Mallams; Cameron Lee, Claire Walter and several nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and great-nieces. George will be greatly missed by his family and friends! Services will be 1:00 PM Monday, January 22, 2018, at Oak Grove Assembly of God, 1320 S. Oak Grove Avenue, Springfield, MO, 65804. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to United States Coast Guard Family Assistance Fund (CGFAF)
