Obituary for Melvis H. Johnson
Melvis H, Johnson, age 92, of Springfield passed away Wednesday, January 17th, 2018 at Mercy Hospital Springfield .
Melvis was born December 21, 1925 in Green County, Mo to John Oscar John and Esta Mae Johnson. He was united in marriage to Virginia May Wiles March 11, 1946 in Gerard, Kansas. Melvis owned and operated Melvis Johnson Trucking Company. Melvis enjoyed gardening, fishing, and taking care of his cattle. He loved to go to Ziggie's every morning to eat breakfast with his buddies. The greatest love of his life was being with his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of seventy-one years, Virginia Johnson; five children, Herschel L. Johnson, Springfield, Pat Batchelor and husband Don, Springfield, DeeDee Johnson, Springfield, Jean Kilburn and husband Will, Willard, Rick Johnson and wife Connie, Springfield; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Tom Johnson; two sisters, Juanita Hargus and Lena Welsh; and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Esta Johnson; and one grandson, Amos Wayne McElroy.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm, Sunday at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. A celebration of Melvis' life will be held Monday, January 22nd, 2018 at 2:00 pm in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with burial to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Funeral services have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
