Obituary for Amos Clinton Roy
On January 16, 2018, at 5:30 AM, the gates of Heaven were opened to another one of the Greatest Generation. Amos (Jack) Roy, a World War II veteran ended his suffering and pain.
Amos Clinton Roy, age 93 of Springfield, MO, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Springfield Rehab & Health Care Center. Jack was born on December 20, 1924 in Mansfield, MO to Amos & Josephine (Dennis) Roy. He graduated from Springfield Senior High School, then enlisted in the US Army as a WWII Medic from March 1943 to March 1946. He worked for O’Reilly Hospital, Lily Tulip, Horton Smith Golf Course and the Greene County Election Poles. After 36 years, Jack retired from Lily Tulip in 1988.
He was a faithful member of the South Haven Baptist Church in Springfield, MO. Jack served as a Mason for 55 years with the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine for 31 years in the Marching Patrol and Legion of Honor, the Gate of The Temple Lodge #422-AF, and the AM Scottish Right. He received awards such as the Victory Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. His Hobbies included golfing, dancing, gardening, and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos & Josephine (Dennis) Roy; 2 sisters, Faye Atteberry and Georgia Lee; 2 brothers, Don and Rex Roy; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Roy; one stepson, Larry Watkins.
He survived by his wife of 33 years, Thelma Jean (Watkins); a daughter, Jacqueline Murphy (& Michael); 2 sons, David Roy (& Sharon) and John Roy; a sister, Cathleen Pickering; a step-daughter-in-law, Shirley Watkins; 7 grandchildren, Michael, Chris, Angela, Brian, Travis, Jason, Aaron; 2 step-grandchildren, Tracy and Kelly; 7 great-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
There will be a Masonic rites service on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 2 PM in Greenlawn Funeral Home South. A visitation will follow the Masonic service from 3 to 4 pm. The burial will be on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 11 AM in Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
