Obituary for Karen Fern Thomas

Karen Fern Thomas
Karen Fern Thomas
Sister, Mother, Grandmother, and Friend
Born on June the 12th of 1941 in a home in Springfield, Missouri to Curtis Harold Rowsey and Ruth Jean (Tucker) Rowsey. One of eight children, three boys and 5 girls. Grew up modestly and as she would say “we didn’t have much but we had enough and that was more than some folks”. Fern as she was called by her siblings and closest friends passed from this world into her Savior‘s arms on the 25th of December 2017 after a lengthy battle with COPD. She handled her illness with much dignity and strength. She never complained about pains or limitations. She just continued to adjust to the restrictions of her abilities. In this way she was a great example to those around her.
She worked at many jobs in her lifetime and was a waitress for most of those years enjoying many friendships and lifelong acquaintances, with many loyal customers. She finished her working years employed in the food service industries with Springfield public schools. She had an untold number of stories about the children that passed by and interacted with her.
She was an avid Baseball fan and even in her last years could usually tell anyone who might ask, how many games the St. Louis Cardinals were in or out of first place. She attended many games and hauled most all of her grandkids to St. Louis to watch a game at some time or another.
She is survived in death by her brother Jim and Ilona Rowsey of Springfield, Mo., Albert and Sally Shockley (sister) of Willard, Mo., Carold and Becky Cruse (sister) of Pleasant Hope, Mo.
She was the Mother to five Brothers and is survived by three Sons, Tracy and Ann Nix of Hollister, Mo., Mark and Racine Nix of Galena, Mo., Shane Nix of Springfield, Mo. 12 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren, and a host of family and friends
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, two brothers: Richard Rowsey and Curtis Jr. (Buck) Rowsey, and two sisters: Ann Cantrell and Barbara Simon. Two sons: Baby David and Ranson Wade Nix.
Visitation will be at Greenlawn Funeral Home North from 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday, December 28, 2017. Funeral services will be Friday, December 29, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
