Obituary for Warren Forrest McPherson

Warren Forrest  McPherson
WARREN FORREST MCPHERSON was born August 6, 1925, to Sam A. McPherson and Jessie Kephart McPherson at Wellston, OK, where he grew up and graduated from Wellston High School in 1943. Warren was converted to Christ in the Wellston Assembly of God. A year later he received a call to the ministry during a National Youth Conference at Central Bible College in Springfield, MO. At the time of his death he was a member of Springfield’s Central Assembly of God.
In August 1943, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and served as a crewmember of a B-24 Liberator bomber. He flew 30 bombing raids over Nazi Europe. He was awarded the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Europe-Africa-Middle East medal with four bronze stars, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and other military honors. In later years he wrote “The Wild Blue Yonder,” a book about his wartime experiences.
After the war he attended Central Bible College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. While at CBC he was a member of the original Revivaltime Choir and also sang in a male quartet. After graduation the Assemblies of God National Youth Department asked the quartet to travel for a year raising funds for youth missionary project Speed-the-Light. He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Drury University and did graduate work studies with Missouri University.
On March 29, 1952, he and BETTY LOU ROBBERSON were united in marriage. They were married more than 65 years. To this union were born two sons: David Warren and Philip Marshall.
Warren was ordained to the ministry in May 1952. He served in pastoral ministry in Stamford, CT; Newport, RI; Akron, OH; Parsons, KS; and Wichita, KS. He served at the Assemblies of God National Headquarters for over 10 years as the Servicemen’s Representative, eight years as the Public Relations Secretary, and two years as the National Chaplains Representative. For nearly six years he served on the staff of the Rex Humbard Television Ministries out of Akron, OH and traveled worldwide with the Humbard family in ministry.
During his ministry he served as the New England District Youth Director, Kansas District Administrative Assistant, Kansas District Presbyter, Kansas District Secretary/Treasurer, a General Council Presbyter and other official capacities.
He departed this life Dec. 25, 2017, at the age of 92 years. He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons David of Springfield and Philip of Olathe, KS; granddaughter Stephanie of Denver, CO; grandson Thomas of Phoenix, AZ; Sister, Barbara Legako and husband Ted of Stillwater, OK; and many dear friends.
There will be a graveside service on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, 10:00am, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Warren F. and Betty L. McPherson Scholarship Fund at Evangel University, 1111 N Glenstone Ave., Springfield, MO 65802.
