Reverend Leland Shultz
Rev. Leland Glenn Shultz, 90, of Springfield, peacefully passed away at 11:14 PM Thursday, November 30, 2017.
Leland was born June 19, 1927 in Fowler, California, to Jesse and Minnie Shultz. He married Valerie A. Peterson on July 17, 1948. They pastored in California, Illinois, and Minnesota before joining the Assemblies of God Headquarters in 1963. He initially served in the National Youth Department, and was promoted to Secretary of the Radio Department, then appointed National Director of Communications for the Assemblies of God fellowship. As announcer for the weekly international Revivaltime radio broadcast, his voice was widely recognized for his enthusiastic introduction: “It’s Revivaltime, across the nation and around the world!” In addition, for 25 years he served on the board of directors for the National Religious Broadcasters. As an author and editor he met several US Presidents, traveled the world, and interviewed many prominent personalities from all walks of life.
He was a loving father to four children: Roland Shultz (Alane) Springfield, MO, Deanna Martin (Robert), Brentwood, TN, Nancy Wray (Floyd), Springfield, MO and Thomas Shultz M.D. (Julie), Springfield, MO. He was blessed with eight grandchildren: Alicia Martin, Casey Wray (Lindsay), Jennifer Blew (Bryan), Jessica Raney (Jon), Adam Martin (Anna), Kevin Shultz, Kent Shultz, Craig Shultz (Rebecca) as well as 11 great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Regina Shultz, five step-children: Sherrilyn Harris (Steve), Angela Harris (Greg), Dary Northrop (Bonnie), Tamra Trivitt (Wade), Renae Terry (Lee), numerous step-grandchildren, step- great grandchildren, as well as his brother-in-law, Alton Peterson, many nephews, nieces and a host of friends.
Leland was preceded in death by Valerie, his wife of 53 years, his parents and six siblings.
Funeral services will be held at Central Assembly of God, Wednesday, December 6, at 10 AM. Officiating the service will be life-long friend, Rev. Robert Strand.
Services are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Burial will be at Rivermonte Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Boys Ranch (ranchlife.org).
