Jacqueline Ophelia Niles was born in El Reno, OK, on Nov. 18, 1928, the oldest child of Bill and Lois (Carlisle) Niles. She grew up in Stillwater, OK, where Bill operated Niles Food Market. She graduated from Stillwater High School and attended Bethany Nazarene College. She returned to school after her boys were raised, receiving two degrees (B.A., M.A.) from Drury College.
She married zoologist Robert H. Ingersol on Dec. 31, 1948, in Stillwater. Later they lived in Ponca City, OK; Dire Dawa, Ethiopia; and on campus at the Alemaya College of Agriculture (now Haramaya University) near Harar, Ethiopia, where Robert taught from 1959-66. Jacque taught for five years in the American Dependent School for faculty children, teaching English and language arts to children in grades 4-8.
They moved to Springfield, MO, in 1968, where Robert joined the Drury College faculty, retiring in 1989. Jacque completed two degrees at Drury and taught elementary students with special needs for a time.
After Robert's death, she married Richard W. Bishop, a minister and retired faculty member from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary. She gained through this marriage a third extended family.
Jacque was a deeply spiritual woman. At age four, she won a Bible for bringing the most new people to church. One became a Nazarene missionary in Nicaragua and later told her: “You won a Bible, but we won Christ.” In Ponca City, she was active in the Nazarene women’s missionary society and prayer and fasting league. In Springfield, she participated in various Bible study groups.
She loved music and sang duets in church with her brother Bob when she was younger. She was the pianist at Springfield First Church of the Nazarene for many years and later filled in there on piano and organ as needed. She also gave private piano lessons. She attended Evangel Temple after marrying Dick, a long-time member and Sunday school teacher there.
Jacque was preceded in death by her two husbands and by her brothers Cardis and Bob.
She is survived by sons Stan Ingersol (Cheryl), Overland Park, KS, and Chris Ingersol (Karen), Mount Vernon OH; brothers John Niles (Karen), Perry, OK, and Hoppy Niles, Oklahoma City; sister-in-law Sue Niles, Carrollton, TX; step-son Richard W. Bishop II (Carolyn), Nixa, MO; stepdaughters Betty Lou Greve (Bud), Springfield, MO; Cheryl Bishop, Schererville, IN; and Bonnie Salewski (Bob), Boise, ID; four grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
Services will be held in Springfield and Stillwater. Springfield visitation will be at Evangel Temple, 2020 E. Battlefield St, 10:00 AM, Monday, Dec. 4. Funeral service at 11:00. Stillwater visitation will be at Strode Funeral Home, 610 S. Duncan St, 10:00 AM, Wednesday, Dec. 6. Funeral service at 11:00, followed by burial in Fairlawn Cemetery.
