Obituary for Carolyn J. Clauss (James)

Carolyn J.  Clauss (James)
Carolyn Jeanett Clauss, aged 83, of Springfield, Missouri passed away on November 18. She was born on July 22, 1934 in Vernon, Texas to the late Alfred James and Ethel James. She was the second youngest of nine children. She graduated from Lockett High School.

On April 28, 1956, Carolyn married the love of her life, Julian H. Clauss in Vernon, Texas. They settled in Westmont, Illinois a Chicago suburb. Carolyn was a loving wife and devoted mother who raised their three children Julian Jr., Pamela and Richard. There were many moves including Connecticut, Florida, Wisconsin, Texas and finally Springfield, Missouri. They shared 52 years of marriage until Julian’s death in 2008.

Carolyn delighted in her family and friends. She did small things with great love. Carolyn touched many lives with her warm and loving spirit. She enjoyed baking and made the holidays special with her delicious cookies and treats.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband to experience culture, beauty and history. Highlights of their many travels included Germany, Alaska, Hawaii and a tour of the Holy Land.

Carolyn was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and active in the LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League). She made hundreds of special yarn crosses that were distributed on many missionary trips. Her faith was her strength and refuge in good times and during times of personal crisis and her battle with cancer.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband Julian in 2008 and son, Julian Jr., in 1975.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Pamela Girardot and husband Jerry, her son, Richard Clauss and wife Diane; grandchildren, Allison Harding and husband Ken, Katie Epley and husband Shawn and their 2 children; brothers J. R. James and wife Melba, Bill James and wife Jane and numerous nieces, nephews; and many close friends.

Visitation will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home East on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 6 – 8 p.m.

Memorial Service will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Springfield, MO on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 11 a.m. followed by a luncheon in the Church Fellowship Hall.
