Obituary for Gary Lee Thompson

Gary Lee  Thompson
Gary Thompson, 68, of Springfield, MO, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017. He was born September 5, 1949 in Kansas City, MO. Gary graduated from Central High School in 1968 and attended Southwest Missouri State University. He served in the United States Navy then he worked at Offutt Air Force Base retiring in May, 1995. Gary married Carol Oliver on August 12, 1978 in Des Moines, IA.
Gary was affiliated with both Southern Baptist and Mormon churches. He was a volunteer with the National Federation of the Blind, was a Mason, and served on the Springfield Mayor’s Commission on Human Rights and Community Relations in 2005. His hobbies were model trains and collecting piggy banks.
His parents Johnnie and Muriel Thompson preceded him in death as did brothers Roger and John Thompson. He is survived by his beloved wife Carol, sisters-in-law Mary and Ruth, a niece Marsha Thompson and a nephew Len Thompson. Other relatives include Nate, Jenn, Michael, and Scott Thompson.
A visitation will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home South on Tuesday, November 21st from 6:30-8:00 p.m. with services on Wednesday, November 22nd at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home followed by the burial. The family has requested no flowers. Donations will be received by Carol Thompson.
