Obituary for Gerald Dion Durbin

Gerald “Dion” Durbin
July 17, 1939 - November 9, 2017

Gerald “Dion” Durbin, age 78, of Brighton, MO was born in Vinita, OK to Joseph Francis Durbin and Gladys Pauline Durbin (Fisher) on July 17, 1939. After a long and full-filled life, Dion has went on to be with our Heavenly Father.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, David Durbin; brother J.C. Durbin, sister; Patsy Wright; brother James Durbin; and, brother Ronald Durbin.

Dion retired from City Utilities of Springfield after 35 years of service. Dion served in the United States Army as a Sergeant in the Artillery Division.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Robert and Sheri Ratliff; a daughter, Donna Hill; a son, Robert Durbin; a daughter, Debra Prugger; a son, Steve Dawson; two brothers; Mickey and Donnie Durbin; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and, so many dear friends.

Dion was a humble man and a very devoted father to his kids and family. He was a mentor to many, and was known for his quick-wit, wise words of advice, his compassion for animals, his love for music, as well as being known as, “Elgreato”. He loved making people laugh. Dion would want you to know his work here is done. He received a call, a sort of an offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which he will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with his son, family, furry family members and many friends. A place where music, laughter and love are guaranteed.
