David Lewis Gaines passed away at The Manor at Elfindale in Springfield MO on November 4th, 2017. He was 76. David was born in Joplin on May 20, 1941 to John R. and Eleanor Gaines. He was raised in Springfield and graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla with a degree in civil engineering.
He married Patty McSpadden in 1961 and raised three sons together. He was later married to Sarah Gaines where they enjoyed exploring the western US together and participated in many sports.
David was an athlete and avid outdoorsman. He was a nationally-ranked marksman and medalist at the National Senior Games. He enjoyed tennis, riding motorcycles, and challenging much younger athletes to games of competitive pickleball well into his seventies.
David is survived by his sons, Greg (and wife Kat) Gaines of Springfield; son Mark (and wife Brittany) Gaines of Lebanon; grandsons Kevin (and wife Liz) Gaines of Battlefield; Sean Gaines of Lebanon; and great-granddaughters Mattie and Hayley. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Eleanor; his brother, Donnie Gaines; and his son, Don Kevin Gaines.
David will be buried in a private family ceremony.
