Sandra Jean Horton
Sandra Jean (Webster) Horton, born July 15, 1937 to William (Bill) and Eliese Webster in
Tekamah, Nebraska, left for her heavenly home on November 2, 2017 in Springfield, Missouri.
Her parents and a brother Billy Webster proceed her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, George Horton, a son, Dr. Curtis Horton and wife
Becky, a daughter, Pamela Young and husband David; five grandchildren, Eliese McCall, Susan
McCall, Brian Young, Abby (Young) Thompson, and Andy Horton; three great grandchildren,
Nicholas Foshe, Audrey McCall, and Devin McCall; two brothers and wives, Arnold and Evelyn
Webster and Gary and Glenice Webster; a sister and husband, Carole and Fritz McCord; two
brothers-in-law, Dale Horton and Bob Horton; a sister-in-law and husband, Delacia and Dwayne
Retherford; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Sandra grew up and went to school in the eastern Nebraska area, graduating from Lyons High
School. Sandra and George met at the local skating rink and dated almost a year before they
were married on June 27, 1954. Curtis was born in Oakland, Nebraska. George enlisted in the
Army and served at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma where Pamela was born.
After the service they moved to the Springfield, Missouri area where George was employed by
Paul Mueller Company for about 25 years. They also developed and operated mobile home
parks in Willard and Mansfield, living in Willard and Rogersville before moving into Springfield.
After several years as a stay at home mom, Sandra completed accounting certification at
Draughons Business College. She was soon employed by O’Reilly Auto Parts in accounts
payable, working there for almost 30 years. After retiring George and Sandra spent many
pleasant winters in Casa Grande, Arizona at the Foothills West RV Resort, gaining lasting
friendships with other “snow birds” across the U.S. There she acquired a passion for genealogy
and researched her ancestors back to Germany.
Sandra was a 13 year cancer survivor. Diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, she received
treatment at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Sandra was blessed
during her final months by the service of Sutton In-Home Senior Care and Intrepid Hospice.
