Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Dortha (2009), and his siblings-Gene Perkins, Lucille (Perkins) Poole, Beatrice (Perkins) Foote, and Glen Perkins. Gus served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific, and was Honorably discharged.
On March 20, 1947, Gus married Dortha Hale in Springfield Mo. and 2 children were born to their marriage-Gary, Sr., and Vicky (Perkins) Stephens. The family lived in various locations in Colorado, California, Kansas and Missouri. Gus was employed with several air craft plants during his career, and in 1980 upon retirement from General Dynamics in San Diego, California, he and Dortha moved to the southwest Missouri area. Gus worked for Drury University as a custodian for several years, and in 1984 the couple purchased a farm in Ash Grove, where they ran cattle until 2000. Upon selling the farm, the couple moved to Willard, where he lived at the time of his passing. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and golfing, Wii Bowling and more recently, he enjoyed playing dominos with anyone that would play. Gus was a faithful member of Harvest Ministries in Springfield, until failing health.
