Obituary for Vernon Lee Robinson

Vernon Lee  Robinson
Vernon L. Robinson, 74 yrs. old, was granted eternal life on Tuesday, October 3 at his home in Springfield, MO. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Vernon was born a twin, on April 28, 1943 in Malvern, Iowa to Roy and Rita Mae Robinson. Vernon was an accomplished athlete and lettered in all sports and played in the band at Malvern High School. He graduated from Wayne State College in 1965 with a degree in Bachelor of Arts and Education. His career was in Annuities and Insurance. He retired from Mutual of Omaha.

Vernon was united in marriage to Joyce A. Johnson of Oakland, NE on August 14, 1965. After marriage they moved to Omaha, NE where they spent the next 50 years. Their union was blessed with four children; and seven grandchildren. In 2014, Vernon and his wife relocated to Springfield, MO to live closer to their children and grandchildren.

Vernon loved the Autumn season with God's beautiful display of color. He enjoyed golf, flower-gardening, an avid reader, a loyal Husker fan, and most importantly loved the Lord. Vernon was a licensed Assembly of God Pastor. He served as a church deacon and taught the New Believers class for several years. Vernon felt led to use his gift of teaching through Prison Ministries at the Douglas County Correctional Center. He was also a volunteer tutor and served on Junior Achievement.

Vernon's devotion was to the Lord and his family. He was a devoted husband of 52 years. He enjoyed spending quality time with each one of his children. Vernon was very supportive and active in all of his children's activities and also coached his son's select baseball team.

After retirement, Vernon and Joyce spent many years traveling and enjoying their special time together.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; Roy and Rita Mae Robinson; sister, Frances Thaller, brothers Kenneth Robinson, Jack Robinson, and twin brother Bernard Robinson and granddaughter Lauren Hall.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Joyce; Amy Hunt (Ben) of Rogersville, MO; Laura Moffitt (Jamie) of Overland Park, KS; Kurt Robinson (Ashley) of West Point, NE; and Kristin Hall (Rich) of Rogersville, MO; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Drew and Madeline of Overland Park, KS; Ethan and Caden Hall of Rogersville, MO; Raigan-Joy Hunt of Rogersville, MO; and William Robinson of West Point, NE.

Services for Vernon will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East with interment following in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, October 6, 2017 and 12:00 to 1:00 pm prior to services in the funeral home.
