Obituary for Chip Frye

Chip Frye
Larry Charles Frye, better known by all his friends as Chip, passed away during an emergency surgery on Monday, September 25th, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. Chip was living in Springfield with his family and was 57 years old at the time of his death. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Larry and Carole Frye on December 25th 1959. Chip enlisted in the U.S. Marines after high school and served for two years; his love and dedication to the Marine Corps never diminished, often talking with pride his experiences in his service to the country he loved. After his enlistment in the Marine Corps, Chip lived in St. Louis and in his later years between Rolla and Kansas City Missouri.

Chip was a charismatic, generous, and outgoing man who was always full of life and quick with a joke. He had a way of making everyone feel like family and having a lasting impression on all those he met. He enjoyed music, grilling, friends, family, and being the best car guy this world has ever seen. In his spare time you could always find him in his backyard, grilling enough food to feed an army, playing his guitar, or watching television (usually the Discovery Channel).

Chip was extremely loving, proud, and survived by his three girls, Sara Friend of Doolittle, Missouri, Paige Frye of Platte City, Missouri, and Ali Frye of St. Joseph, Missouri; his beautiful wife, soulmate, and best friend Kim Frye (Cook); and his three adorable grandsons Aiden Blakely and Dayton and Dawson Friend. Chip is survived by his two brothers, John and Matthew Frye.

For a man who was larger than life, we hope all will remember him the way we did. Our hearts are empty but we are comforted by the fact we know the world lost a great man but our Lord gained a new Marine to post guard at the Pearly Gates. He will be missed by all who knew him but he will remain in our hearts and in our thoughts whenever we hear a good joke, attend a cookout, or listen to some classic rock music.
