Obituary for Dazel Winnie Thomas (McCroskey)
Dazel W. Thomas, age 99 of Fair Grove, died September 14, 2017 after a short illness. She was born May 28, 1918 in Willard, Missouri. She grew up just outside Willard and graduated Willard High School. She was united in marriage to Fred O. Thomas on June 16, 1937. To that union, two sons, John and Bill were born.
Dazel was a hard working farm wife, running a dairy farm with her husband Fred, and later after his passing in 1980, raising beef cattle. She attended the Methodist church in Fair Grove regularly and was an avid quilt maker, of which she made several, especially for the family members. She was still driving her Oldsmobile to church and grocery store up until just a few years ago. She was a great cook and hosted family dinners and get-togethers which everyone enjoyed. She loved to square dance and was in a group for many years. She loved her family and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary (Greenwade) McCroskey, her husband, Fred Thomas, her sister, Nellie Kane, brothers, Robert, Loren, and Tom, and son, John Thomas. She is survived by her son, Bill Thomas and wife Susie of Fair Grove, daughter-in-law, Pat Thomas of Springfield, grandsons, Bud Thomas (Melissa) of Springfield, Greg Thomas of Fair Grove, granddaughters, Stephanie Shaw (Dan) of Springfield, Kathy Kent (Phil) of Fair Grove, and Natalie Edwards-Heller (Josh) of Tallahassee, Florida. Also surviving are sister-in-laws, Pauline Thomas and Dorma McCroskey, several great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, September 18, 2017, 6:00-8:00pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 19, 2017, 1:00pm, also at Greenlawn North. Interment will be at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Fair Grove.
