Obituary for Shawn McMahon

Shawn McMahon
Shawn McMahon, 47, passed away peacefully at his Prairie Village, KS home on Friday, September 1, surrounded by his family, after a courageous two-year battle with colon cancer.

When Shawn was a teenager, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at the Central Street Christian Church, Springfield, MO.

Shawn was born and raised in Springfield, and attended Disney, Cherokee, and Kickapoo schools. He attended MSU, UMKC and received his BS in Business Communications from Drury College in 1994.

Shawn had a successful career in the medical devices field with several Fortune 500 companies – Guidant, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, and Concentric/Stryker. His career landed him in the Million Dollar Club, Presidents' Club, National Rookie of the Year, and Top Rep in US Overall Sales.

Shawn had a passion for football from a young age, playing youth football throughout his grade school years and then junior/high school football. He was an avid, loyal Kansas City Chiefs fan, attending many home games. Shawn was so looking forward to watching his beloved son Quinn play football this fall—and we know Quinn will feel his father’s presence then and always.

Shawn lived his life to the fullest despite his share of trials and challenges. He was very charismatic, had a strong work ethic, and with his outgoing personality Shawn never met a stranger. He loved boating on Table Rock Lake, vacationing in Mexico, driving his 2002 Jag that he called his “chemo car” as he maintained a healthy sense of humor about his condition—but most of all Shawn enjoyed time with family and friends. Thankfully many, many loved ones from throughout Shawn’s life were able to visit in recent weeks, bringing great joy and comfort to Shawn. He was so grateful for your love, your caring words, and for the chance to share precious memories again.

Shawn was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Quinn and Lina Gott; paternal grandparents Jim and Ruth McMahon; and his cousin Andy Gott.

Shawn is survived by his son, Quinn McMahon, (and Quinn's mother, Danielle) of Leawood, KS; and his mother and stepfather, Janie and Joe Corn. He is also survived by half-siblings Deb, Julie, Sherre and Jim McMahon; stepbrother Russell Corn (and wife Poonnasa) and Emma; uncles Charlie Gott and Lee (and wife Sharon) Gott; aunt Janeth Jones, as well as many cousins and life-long friends. He also leaves behind his faithful canine companion, Ms. Brownie.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 5, Rivermonte Memorial Gardens, 4500 Lone Pine Avenue, Springfield, MO. A Celebration of Life will follow at Touch Restaurant, 1620 E. Republic Road, 3-5 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home East.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Andy Gott Scholarship Fund, c/o Community Foundation, Springfield, MO, or the American Cancer Society.
