Obituary for Lura Lee Hunt (Stanley)

Lura Lee Hunt (Stanley)
Lura Lee "Grammy" Hunt, age 92, Springfield, MO, went home to be with her Savior at 11:30 a.m. August 22, 2017. She was born in Springfield, MO on April 24, 1925 to Ramey Esquire Victor Stanley & Thelma “Minnie” (Lloyd) Stanley. She was a graduate of Springfield High School in 1943. Lura Lee was united in marriage on August 2, 1947 to Eugene Thomas Hunt. They were blessed with one son, Mark Eugene Hunt.
Lura Lee worked at Netter’s department store on St. Louis St. in Springfield during the late 1940’s. Upon the birth of their son she decided to devote her time to raising Mark, being a wife, and serving in various ministries at their church home of over 60 years, Glenstone Baptist Church. Lura Lee was a true prayer warrior and a constant presence at Glenstone Baptist. Her seat in the sanctuary was common knowledge, her smile was contagious, and her passion for serving could be found all over the church. Lura Lee never met a stranger, and her wardrobe always had a little bling that matched the twinkle in her eye. If she liked your outfit she had to tell you, and if out in public she spotted a dog or a baby she would need at least a few minutes to chat them up whether human or canine.
While Gene was alive they took trips every chance they had to destinations all over the globe. While on those trips she worked on perfecting her favorite hobby, shopping. Take her to the mall and buy her some chocolate, and she was one happy lady!
Lura Lee “Grammy” lived her life for Christ. A note she wrote and carried in her wallet said, “the best remedy for greed is generosity.” She lived by those words and was always generous with her time, talents, and money in any way she could.
She was extremely proud of her family. Grammy was not one to boast except when talking about her grandkids and great grandkids. Conversations about her GREAT grandchildren, Aden, Etta, Nataya, Saalihya, Seneca, Jade, and Everleigh were the only time you would hear her brag.
The family would like to thank the numerous caregivers Lura Lee has had over the past year. Violet McElhaney and Amanda Varley are two ladies that showed her so much love, care, and friendship.
Lura Lee was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Eugene, her daughter-in-law LuDena Hunt, and many other friends with which she is rejoicing in Heaven!
She is survived by her son Mark, her daughter-in-law Connie Hunt; and her sister Mary Lou Snyder all of Springfield, MO. Granddaughters Ashley (Hunt) Gaisford, her husband Joel and their children Aden and Etta of Nixa, MO; Katie Rikard Gibson, her husband Spencer and their children Nataya, Saalihya, Seneca and Jade also of Nixa, MO; Candace Rikard and her fiance Mike Armstrong and daughter Everleigh of Overland Park, KS; and many other beloved family and friends.
Services will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and funeral will follow at 11 a.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home East located at 3540 East Seminole.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Glenstone Baptist Church in her name.
