Funeral services for Bertha Faye (Goin) Thompson age 77 of Springfield, Missouri will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 24, 2017 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East with burial to follow in Rivermonte Cemetery in Springfield.
She passed away on July 19, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo.
Bertha was born on April 22, 1940 in Memphis, Tennessee the daughter of Wade and Wilna Wilks Goin. She graduated from School of The Ozark High School in 1958 and was a 1960 graduate of the Junior College at School of The Ozarks. She was a longtime resident of Springfield where she was a retired Teacher’s Aide with the Springfield Public Schools and was a member of the Christian Community in Springfield. She was a member of T.O.P.S. Club where she was crowned Missouri State Queen on May 21, 2016 for losing the greatest amount of weight. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was united in marriage to Charles William “Bill” Thompson on August 12, 1960 in Kansas City, Missouri and to this union was born two daughters.
She is survived by her husband, Charles William “Bill” Thompson of the home, and two daughters, Susanne Johnson (Thomas L) of Branson, Mo., and Jennifer Lohmuller (Darin) of Ozark, Missouri, five grandchildren; Emily Johnson, Thomas L. Johnson III, Erik Lohmuller, Rebecca Lohmuller and Allison Lohmuller. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James Goin.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at Greenlawn Funeral Home East.
Memorial contributions are suggested in lieu of flowers to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, College of The Ozarks or to the donor’s favorite charity.
