Obituary for Kenneth Gene Price

Kenneth Gene Price was born August 31, 1950 in Cameron, MO to Betty Grace (Butcher) Price and Elvert Efton Price. Ken passed away peacefully with family by his side on June 26, 2017. He was reunited with his wife Anita, of 42 years on that day. Ken fought a valiant battle in his last days. His heart was weak but his will to live was strong. His daughters were his encouragement every step of the way but God had another plan. Education was very important to Ken. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1968 and from William Jewell College in 1989. He held a degree in accounting and in computer programing. At the time of Ken’s early departure he was employed with Southwest Center for Independent Living as the Chief Financial Officer, Springfield, MO. Ken’s dedication in caring for others was not only evident in his choice of careers but in his community and church home as well. He was a member of Legacy Bible Fellowship, where he played his own set of drums. Ken was a role model to many and sowed seeds without knowing. His ability to play the drums well was a huge musical influence to some. Ken gave his life to the Lord in his early 20’s and lived an exemplary life. He loved to tell the story of how he gave his heart to Jesus in a “Pizza Hut” in down town Kansas City. Ken was a member of the Eagle Scouts as a young man and a member of the TKE Fraternity at Missouri Western State University. He later co-founded a support group, H.U.G.S. which was a brain tumor support group. This group came about as Ken was a survivor of a brain tumor himself.

On June 28th of 1974 in Avondale, Missouri, Ken married Anita Faye Gibson. They started a life together in Liberty, MO. Three little red headed girls were the result and joy of this union. Ken was always devoted to his wife and found his children to be a treasure. He was the “fun dad”. He was the inventor whom always came up with crazy ideas and always the one experimenting in order to test his theories or prove his point. He was particular and precise about everything including the girl’s homework. Ken creatively attempted to teach the girls and their neighborhood friends with “hands on”.

Ken gave his all in whatever he put his mind to doing. He enjoyed exploring caves, riding motorcycles, volunteering at various events, horse play with his grandchildren and spending time with all of his many friends and family members. He was a supportive and loving husband, son, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a most vivid imagination. He was so many things all rolled into one fine man.

Those left behind, to cherish his memory, daughter, Wendy McMurtrey, her husband Craig, their children, Caleb and Callie, all of Crocker, MO. Daughter, Melissa, her husband, Shane, their children, Chase, Elijah, and Maddison all from St. Joseph, MO. Daughter, Tiffany Price Peoples and her three daughters, Tatum, Avery, and Cadence all from Liberty, MO. He also leaves his parents, Efton and Betty Price from Maysville, MO; two brothers, Rodney Price of Liberty, MO and Bill Price from Fairdealing, MO; one sister, Pam Elliott and her husband Rick of Kansas City, MO. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A. M. on Saturday, July 15th, 2017 at Word of Life Church, 3902 N. Riverside Road., St. Joseph, MO 64505
