Obituary for Marilyn V. Zinter

Marilyn Virginia Zinter, 91, of Springfield, Missouri died February 18, 2014. Marilyn Zinter, was born October 11, 1922, the daughter of Elmer and Dulcie (Gooding) Gold of Hurley, Missouri. She was a loving wife of 56 years to Herman Robert Zinter who preceded her in death. Mrs Zinter passed away, surrounded by her family, after a brief battle with pneumonia.
She is survived by her five children: Beverly (Zinter) Henry, Susan (Zinter) Hunsicker, Steve Zinter, Harold Zinter and Marguerite (Zinter) Bond. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Zinter was a noted gardener and was well known for the beauty and variety of flowers that lined her yard. A long time Garden Club member, she also raised strawberries ,blueberries and apples, sharing them with neighbors and friends.
Mrs Zinter was proud of the work that she accomplished during WWII at Western Union Telegraph. She taught at the Western Union School in Springfield, during the war, to help train teletype operators. Western Union was a vital link in communication during the war, supported by a dedicated group of young women teletype operators. Mrs. Zinter received a commendation for her teletype work in Paris, Texas during troop deployments.
Marilyn and her husband were founding members of the Redeemer Lutheran Church where her funeral services will be held on Monday, February 24th at 11:30 am. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Feb 23 at Greenlawn Funeral Home South on Battlefield in Springfield. Mrs. Zinter will be intered in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery following the service.
